Costa del Sol
The Costa del Sol has always been associated with exceptional facilities and a complete range of services. The Costa del Sol is an area in the south of Spain that benefits from exceptionally good
Mediterranean weather, turning it into a favourite holiday region. The Costa del Sol extends along the coastline belonging to the province of Malaga. The city of Malaga is the capital of the province and is a central reference point to divide the east and west of the Costa del Sol. The main towns in the east of the Cost del Sol are Nerja, Torrox and Velez Malaga. The main towns in the west of the Costa del Sol are Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Mijas, Marbella and Estepona.
Benalmadena
Over the past 25 years Benalmadena has developed into one of the key tourism areas on the Costa del Sol. There is plenty to do all year round; among the attractions are the Puerto Marina and the Torrequebrada Golf Course and Casino.
Estepona
Estepona is situated between Marbella and Manilva at the foot of the Sierra Bermeja Mountains. The Estepona town centre conserves its old Andalusian style of architecture. Estepona is also one of the most important tourist towns on the Costa del Sol with magnificent beaches and facilities.
Fuengirola
Fuengirola is one of the most important towns on the eastern Costa del Sol between Benalmadena and Mijas. Fuengirola offers beautiful landscape, good restaurants, top hotels, large marina, nightspots and numerous bars. Fuengirola became an independent municipality in 1953, quickly growing into the busy tourist town it is today.
Marbella
Marbella is known all over the world as one of the classiest and most beautiful holiday destinations in Southern Europe. Marbella has beaches, mountains, old world charm, cosmopolitan atmosphere, quality services and a wonderful climate that keeps the temperature cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter than the rest of the Costa del Sol.
Mijas
Mijas is situated in the foothills of the Coastal mountain Range and is one of the most typical examples of the pretty mountain town in Andalucia, with view over the Costa del Sol. The municipal area of Mijas covers from the mountains down to the sea.
Nerja
Nerja is the easternmost town on the Costa del Sol, lying between the foothills of the Sierra Almijara and the coast. At the southern tip of the town a famous promontory known as the Balcon de Europa hangs over the sea. The original atmosphere of an Andalusian Mediterranean village is preserved in the streets in the old part of Nerja
Torremolinos
Torremolinos is one of the most visited towns on the Costa del Sol. In the 1920s, Torremolinos was a small town of inhabitants, whose source of livelihood was farming, fishing and making flour. By the end of the 1950s, Torremolinos had already established itself as one of the principal tourist towns of the new tourist boom, and since then has become one of the most important tourist centres on both a national and international level.
Torrox
The name of the town derives from the Arabic word for a tower, but the history of Torrox goes back a long way before Moorish times, to the first century. The town of Torrox is exceptionally rich in historic architecture, its narrow and winding streets reminiscent of Moorish times. The town centre is filled with small houses built as the ground rises and falls.
Velez Malaga
Velez's climate is mild all year round, with an average of 23 degrees in winter and 26 degrees in the summer months. This has attracted people from many parts who have come to settle here. Since it covers a large surface area, the municipality is dotted with town and villages. The largest of these is the town of Velez Malage itself, just a few kilometres inland, while the resort of Torre del Mar is on the coast.
